REMITRAK and PROPTRAK are progrmas to estimate the effect and plasma compartment concentrations of remifentanil and propfol in real time under differing lean body mass estimates.

Requirements - A PC, VGA screen, Windows95 or subsequent. Mouse or similar pointing device highly recommended ( though not essential). A PDF reader will need to be installed to access the help file. Examples are Adobe Reader and Foxit.

IMPORTANT READ CAREFULLY!

This program does NOT teach the user how to perform total intravenous anaesthesia, but seeks to provide information on the calculated compartment concentrations for propofol or remifentanil using the James, Hume & Wyeth and Janmahasation lean body mass equations.

This program must only be used by those competent in total intravenous anaesthesia.

THIS PROGRAM IS NOT A MEDICAL DEVICE! Neither the author nor any internet site is responsible for the use of this program. This program does not connect to, or control in any way, any intravenous infusion device.

Brief operating instructions.

Minimum equipment - 32-bit Windows (tested on Windows 95B, XP SP3 ), VGA 640x480. A mouse or similar pointing device is recommended. although all buttons and edit boxes may be tabbed. Both programs may be run simultaneously, though on a standard VGA screen you will have to tab between them.

On running the program you will need to enter the patient details, height, weight, age & gender. An age of zero is accepted, but height and weight must be greater than zero. Take care to enter correctly as the patient data cannot be changed once the program is run. Data may be stored as a comma separated text file (CSV) which may be loaded into most spreadsheeets and databases. The file will be closed on hitting either the 'Abort' or 'Cancel' keys.

The program can then be started at the default infusion rate ( 0 ). You may change the infusion rate at any time. Once you change the entry you must confirm the change using the adjacent button. The program will calculate the plasma and effect concentrations according to the Minto (remifentanil) or Schnider (propofol) model but with three different lean body mass equations. Please note, unlike some pumps, there is NO upper BMI limit for James. You will have to copy your pump settings into this program as there is no other means to do so!

You may stop the program at any time either by setting the pump rate to zero ( concentrations will still be calculated ) or by the 'Abort' key, which will restore the program default settings.

If you press 'Cancel' then the program will terminate. Pressing 'Accept' means that the user accepts the limitations above.
